Pamela and Curtis Funk started Olympic Systems in 1985. We designed the metal buildings, drafted the shop details and subcontracted the fabrication. A "mom and pop" business, the living room served as an office and drafting room by day, and a bedroom for one of our five children at night. We counted screws on the kitchen floor before the delivery. We were big time when we built a garage building to serve as our office. Shortly, we began minor fabrication with a part time welder who was also a full time Garland firefighter. David Riggs was a valuable asset and our thanks far exceed anything we could ever say.
We purchased property on Coke Road in the city of Winnsboro in 1993. It served as office space as well as a minor fabrication facility. On site major fabrication was begun after a 9000 sf shop expansion in 1995.
The business incorporated in 1994 as Merrimac Ventures, Inc. and remained doing business as Olympic Systems. The name Merrimac came from a small town near our home in the 1920s. It was a thriving community with saw mills with a railroad spur, as well as a school and post office.
Redding Concrete was purchased in 1998 when Dayne Redding was elected Mayor of Winnsboro and decided to retire. The key personnel remained with the operation and remain still.
We are also one of a very few concrete contractors in our area who provide Worker's Compensation and $1 million General Liability insurances for your protection.
